IBM PERSONAL SYSTEM/2 MODEL 90 XP 486 (8590-0J5, -0J9 AND -0KD) Contents Announcement Letter Number 190-176 dated October 30, 1990 US - Last Revised on October 30, 1990 Brief Description of Announcement, Charges, and Availability The Personal System/2 (R) (PS/2 (R)) Model 90 XP 486 is a family of powerful and expandable desktop systems based on IBM's Micro Channel (R) architecture and 32-bit 80486 processors. These new systems are designed to meet the needs of users in advanced computing environments requiring high performance with large amounts of memory, medium to large data storage capability, and high resolution graphics. The PS/2 Model 90 XP 486 systems provide technical leadership and reflect IBM's responsiveness to satisfy customers' requirements. Through a unique design of the system, the 80486 processor is contained on a removable processor complex.
This expandable processor feature of the PS/2 Model 90 XP 486 systems allows processor upgrade from the 25MHz to the more powerful 33MHz system. The ability to upgrade can extend the life of the system as customer requirements for enhanced processor performance grow.
The new Extended Graphics Array (XGA), high performance 32-bit busmaster video subsystem, is a standard feature of the PS/2 Model 90 XP 486 system. XGA is an evolution of the Video Graphics Array (VGA) providing the user with enhanced resolution, color content and hardware functionality.
The IBM Personal System/2 Micro Channel SCSI Adapter with Cache (32-bit busmaster) is a standard feature that can provide enhanced DASD performance as well as the ability to attach up to seven Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) devices from a single adapter. Four DASD bays are provided, one of which can accommodate 5.25-inch half high and the other three support 3.5-inch DASD devices. Harmonic proview 7100 manual na russkom youtube. Two bays are available for expansion such as a fixed disk, CD-ROM, floppy disk drive and tape backup. Three additional 32-bit micro channel expansion slots are available for a wide range of additional functions such as connectivity capability, attaching other I/O devices, and/or coprocessor adapters.
Two Direct Memory Access (DMA) serial ports and one DMA parallel port are provided as standard. The PS/2 Model 90 XP 486 also provides a unique ability to boot from any drive and an easy upgrade to Basic Input Output System (BIOS) capability. The PS/2 Model 90 XP 486 Model 0KD features the 33MHz 80486 microprocessor with 320 million bytes (320MB) of fixed disk storage. The Models 0J5 and 0J9 include the 25MHz 80486 and 80 million bytes (80MB) and 160 million bytes (160MB) of fixed disk storage, respectively. The processor includes an internal memory cache controller, an internal 8KB memory cache and an internal floating point processor unit. IBM is enhancing its option product line by announcing the IBM Personal System/2 5.25-Inch Slim High Diskette Drive (#1066, 6451066). This device is an internal 5.25-inch, 1.2MB slim-high diskette drive with electrical button eject and does not require an attachment card or expansion slot for installation, and is supported in PS/2 Model 90 XP 486 and PS/2 Model 95 XP 486 (refer to Product Announcement 190-175, dated October 30, 1990.) The PS/2 Model 90 XP 486 is supported by Operating System/2 (R) (OS/2 (R)) Standard Edition 1.2 and 1.3, OS/2 Extended Edition 1.2 and 1.3, and IBM Disk Operating System (DOS) Version 3.3 and 4.0 operating systems.

It is compatible with the form factor and bus design of the original PC, yet it takes advantage of greater Intel 80286 and 8086 processing speeds. The card features a 2 megabit-per-second transmission speed with a CSMA/CD access protocol and supports both the previously available PC Network protocol (contained on PC Network Adapter) via IBM PC Network Protocol Driver (P/N 6280061) and 802.2/LLC protocols via IBM LAN Support Program (P/N 83X7873). To take advantage of the 802.2 protocol, the IBM LAN Support Program must be installed on all workstations on the network.
