Hey guys, started having issues with my 2008 Mac Pro yesterday. I was playing a somewhat graphics intensive game (CK2 - nothing crazy) and it was starting to get sluggish, then the screen basically froze with some red squiggles on it. Rebooting helped for a bit, but then they would come back.

OS X El Capitan / Sierra / High Sierra Hanging on Boot. Of Pro Tools I’m running is not compatible with 10.11.6. 10.11.5 el capitan, mac boots in safe mode. Desktop Compatibility. Mac Pro 1,1 - Video Card Compatibility: GT 730 & El Capitan? To its full potential with my Mac Pro and Metal through El Capitan,.

This happened in macOS and Windows 10, so I figured it was hardware-related. Now when I try to boot up, I get the above screen. I’m assuming this is my graphics card dying/having already died?

Any help from you guys will be helpful, since I don’t want to spring for a new card only to have it be something else. Also, if it is the card, do you guys have any suggestions for a good, cheap replacement? The most graphics intensive thing I do is play CK2, so I’m not needing a beast, just something that is compatible with the older hardware and macOS. Thanks, folks! Its a beautiful glitch, and you're slightly screwed. So the good news is, it's probably the GPU and a replacement is no big deal - with recent software you can use a 1050, a 750, a 960 from Nvidia, and a bunch of recent AMD cards.

Only way you could double check is bring up the Pro in Firewire target disk, hook it to something like a 2009 Macbook and use that to set ssh, then reboot the Pro and check that the system can be accessed by SSH. Except, that a new GPU won't give you EFI screens for things like selecting Windows or Mac OS.

For that, or an original GT120. Best tip, get SSH or VNC running, install the Nvidia web driver and try a cheap PC card - An Nvidia GT 630 (1GB only - 2GB cards won't work!) should set you back about $20. Then, assuming the system boots ok with that card, buy a flashed GTX750 if you want your Mac completely functional, or a 1050Ti if you're running High Sierra, want to game harder but don't care about switching OS.

There are also 'hacks' to keep bootcamp with an unflashed card. Search the sub for 'bootcamp', there have been several recent posts. Edit: Should point out, I suggest the 750 and 1050 because the reference versions don't need anything but slot power - meaning that you won't stress your ten-year-old power supply, and you don't need to do any difficult or awkward cabling. I think I'm in the clear - thanks for all your help! I ordered a GeForce GT 630 but got impatient waiting for the seller to actually ship it out, so I found a GeForce 8800 GT on FB marketplace and picked it up for 25 bucks. Thankfully, it works fine, but no boot screen. Rhinoceros rusifikator for sale. I got the GT 630 earlier today and tried to install it.

I downloaded the web drivers, but they aren't working for whatever reason. I've installed the CUDA update but haven't been able to check it again just yet. I'm a little disappointed that I can't get the 630 working. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm certainly looking for some. As it stands now, though, I am up and running with the 8800 GT.
