Pleased you are enjoying the Darkvoice. As I said, it was a hard decision to sell. On one hand, I heard clarity I had never heard before. On the other hand, i just don't listen to headphones enough to justify having the rig. Pleased it went to a good home. I have tried the Tung Sol 5998 in the Darkvoice- its arguably more detailed but also brighter. This didn't seem to work as well with my electret cans (seemed a bit thin?), but might work with yours.

The other tube that I have spent time with and like is the GE 5998a (which is sort of a hybrid between the 5998 and the 6AS7). I mentioned that my stereo amp runs 6AS7 type tubes. A real bargain - you can stock up on these tubes and have a lifetime supply. As above theTS 5998 is definately more detailed, but I found it less enjoyable to listen to with my cans. I love the which is expensive but less costly than the 5998A/ WE421 or GEC tubes.indeed I am listening to the GE 5998A now in my integrated amp in my regular system.
